Andreas Fritiofson 8c6b95ed16 armv7m: improve error handling ...

Propagate errors unchanged.
Free allocated working area in the error return path.
Remove duplicated cleanup code by rewriting the logic.
As a side-effect, fixes a scan-build warning.
